What is Xuan Kong Flying Star Feng Shui?

Xuan Kong Fei Xing (玄空飞星), often translated as Flying Star Feng Shui or Time-Space Feng Shui, is a system that combines time, space, and energy (Qi) to evaluate how a building influences the lives of its occupants.

Core Principles

The Nine Stars (Lo Shu Numbers)

  • Each “star” is represented by a number (1–9) in the Lo Shu magic square.

  • Each star corresponds to an element, trigram, family member, organ, colour, and type of Qi.

  • Example: Star 8 (Gen trigram, Earth element) is associated with prosperity and stability.

Time Cycles (San Yuan Jiu Yun)

  • Time is divided into 20-year cycles, called “Periods.”

  • There are 9 Periods in a grand cycle (180 years).

  • We just shifted from Period 8 (2004–2023) into Period 9 (2024–2043), dominated by the #9 Fire Star (Li trigram).

Space (The 24 Mountains)

  • A Luo Pan compass divides directions into 24 sub-sectors.

  • The facing direction of a building determines how stars “fly” into different sectors of the floor plan.

Flying Star Chart

  • Every building has a “birth chart” based on its construction/occupation date and facing direction.

  • The chart shows three layers of stars in each sector:

    • Base Star (period energy)

    • Sitting Star (mountain/people energy)

    • Facing Star (water/wealth energy)

    • Fire-related industries (tech, energy, communications, entertainment) thrive.

Practical Example

If a home faces South (Li trigram) and was first occupied in 2024, its natal chart will be a Period 9 chart. The #9 star in the centre becomes the ruling energy, and the practitioner would map how other stars distribute across the 8 compass sectors. Remedies (like adding water, fire, or earth elements) are then applied to enhance good stars and weaken harmful ones.
